DJ Mujay Profile
I was born and raised in Mabvuku, Harare and inspired by DJ Premier and the legendary Sir Tony Humphries - both of whom I've had the honour of meeting. I earned the title DJ in 1986 and by 1990 had started Ghettobass Mobile Disco with FLY D and my brother 'Musope' KILLA KELLY. We specialised in house parties, school functions and private parties.
THE STORY: Stanley £ sterling came to one of the house parties Ghettobass disco was hosting. He heard my set and immediately asked me to join the Mixmasters at Spillway. The Mixmasters outfit then became comprised of: Stan £ Sterling, Kelvin "Soul Supreme" Sifelani, Eugene Wilde, 'Sammy T' Mundawarara, Rector MC and myself.
Stan organised a big jam at Spillway and he invited all the top DJs. I had the occassion to meet other legends like: Zed 'The President', Peter 'Peejay' Johns, Jim "The Soul Spinner", etc.
CAREER
I worked for Spin-A-Long Records from 1990 – 1999. This opened a lot of doors for me in the music world both locally and internationally. It also gave me unlimited access to music and I met most radio DJs in Zimbabwe from radio one to radio four. I produced Spin-A-Long Records radio shows on Radio One and Radio Three. The shows were presented by Simon Parkinson, Kelvin Sifelani, Comfort Mbofana, Gerry Jackson, Ralph Glover, Dave Botha, etc. I also mingled with Zimbabwe's top musicians from Thomas Mapfumo, Oliver Mtukudzi and the late Leonard Dembo just to name a few.
I was resident deejay @ Circus Nite Club when Ronnie Cool left for South Africa.
I have deejayed in every night club in Harare and major Zimbabwean cities. I can name drop all day! I have also met and worked with the following: Kimble 'Double K' Rogers, Otis 'The Flow' Fraser and Shabear Poonja in the early 1990's.
If you want to enjoy my sets… close your ears…and listen wit'cha soul.
